Tom joined Ariel Re shortly after its inception and served as Senior Vice President, US Property Reinsurance before becoming President in 2008. He has over 20 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance, having held senior positions with companies in both the US and Bermuda markets. Prior to joining Ariel RE Tom held various positions within the General Re Group, most recently as Vice President and Treaty Account Executive. He began his career in 1990 as a Facultative Underwriter, and in 1993 relocated to Bermuda as part of the team forming Starr Excess Liability Insurance Company, an excess liability insurer sponsored by AIG and Gen Re. In 1997 he joined Gen Re Financial Products in New York as Vice President, where he was responsible for the marketing of structured finance and derivative products to the insurance industry. From 2000-2002 Mr. Hulst served as Head of Marketing for Gen Re Capital Consultants, a subsidiary of General Re that provides consulting services to insurance companies. Mr. Hulst graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan and holds a MBA degree with honors from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Business.
